Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against food that is designed especially for goldfish. But, that kind of food has less protein and more carbs, so it’s a good thing to feed your fish with additional food such as brine shrimps or bloodworms. Like any other animal, goldfish will benefit from having a varied and well-balanced diet.

How long can goldfish live without food?

One of the first questions new owners ask themselves. Well, you don’t need to worry. Your goldfish can survive several weeks without food. However, if you are on vacation or out of town for more than that, ask your friends to feed your goldfish. Actually, most of the health problems occur because of overfeeding, not the opposite.

Where can I buy goldfish food?

You can buy goldfish food in the local pet stores or online. It’s a good thing to support the local stores, but they are making more and more difficult for us fish keepers, cause they are overpricing their products. However,  is your choice after all.

There are a lot of high-quality foods on the market today and it’s hard to decide what would be the best choice for your goldfish. However, we did our research and narrowed down the best choices and it became obvious that Aqueon Goldfish Flakes stood out as one of the best.

The best thing about this formula is that it consists of lots of natural ingredients enrich with vitamins and minerals.
Plus, it’s a good size tube with large flakes. Your goldfish will simply love it. However, feeding your fish with only flakes can cause intestinal problems.

In general, flake food is not good for goldfish, simply because it’s on the surface like a floating pellet. That can attract the fish to go above the surface and ingest air which might lead to swim bladder problems.

Omega One Goldfish Medium Pellets

Omega One Goldfish Medium Pellets is another great option for Goldfish.

The main ingredient here that’s very important (my opinion anyway) is the natural beta-carotene color enhancer, but there are a few other high-quality ingredients as well. Combined together they are a nice variety to your goldfish diet.

The thing we really like, though, is that this fish food includes an Omega 3 & 6 HUFA’s which is great for the general health of the fish.

Their name is actually a term used by pet stores owners to describe a small family of cichlids native to South America. However, a part of this family are a three separate species-Pterophyllum altumi, Pterophyllum scalare and Pterophyllum leopold.

The most commonly kept species in the aquarium is the Pterophyllum scalare. Angelfish are one of the oldest aquarium fish in the hobby. A hundred years ago the Angelfish was known as the king of freshwater aquarium fish species and was treated carefully as discus fish is treated today.

Angelfish Diet & Nutrition Needs

Angelfish will happily accept most of the commercial foods. They are not picky at all. However, feed them a variety such as flakes or small pellets to satisfy their nutrition needs.

And you really want to keep an eye on their feeding, since not eating for a very long time can be serious indicator that something is wrong with the fish.

In the wild, their primary foods are small insects, guppies, and invertebrates. So it’s a good thing to feed them with a frozen or live food once in a while.

TetraMin Tropical Flakes is usually on our go-to recommendations for almost every freshwater aquarium fish, and it’s always part of the foods that we give to our angelfish.

The main reason we like this fish food is that it’s got lots of Omega-3 fatty acids which make this food one of the best foods for angelfish growth.

Plus, this recipe contains ingredients that enhance angelfish natural colors. This fish food is an excellent value, and your angels will love it.

In other words, it’s a great formula.

Ken’s Premium Beefheart Flake

Ken’s Premium Beefheart Flake is a very good, protein-rich recipe with lots of great ingredients. It’s made with real beef hearts with one purpose, to get your angels in a spawning condition. It’s often used by breeders.

We would recommend it for any tropical fish, it’s a good food, and it’s not made it only for angels.

This particular fish food contains protein 46% min., fat 10% min., fiber 10% max., and moisture 10% max. Other ingredients we like include vitamin a, vitamin d3 supplement and vitamin b12 supplement.

We bought a small bag of this for our angels to try, and they love it.

African cichlids are one of the most interesting species to keep in your aquarium. If you treat them right, they will live long and healthy lives. To achieve that you need to understand their dietary requirements.

How often should you feed African cichlids? Well, cichlids can consume a large amount of food in a short period of time, so it’s better to feed them small portions at a time. We also want to make sure that the food contains all the essential ingredients.

With that in mind, here are just a few recommendations.

New Life Spectrum Cichlid Formula

I love New Life Spectrum Cichlid Formula. It’s what I feed my fish at home, and they love it too. I’ve fed them several different formulas, and they are just all really good.

One of the reasons I like this brand is that the ingredients are all super high-quality. I believe that all fish require balanced and varied diet and NLS provides that.

In this particular formula, generous inclusion rate of Garlic is included. That’s a good thing because garlic is a natural anti-parasite ingredient. Another thing worth to mention is the NLS is one of the best African cichlid food for color enhancement.
